Residency Tracks

Our program is the first and only Family Medicine Residency offering four tracks for your professional and personal development. Click on each to learn more about each program.

Our University-Based Track emphasizes traditional family medicine through specialty rotations at the OSU Medical Center, a nationally ranked academic medical center. Our inpatient service at University Hospital East allows family medicine residents to develop their clinical and technical skills in a supportive environment that fosters personal and professional development. Residents will follow continuity outpatients at the Rardin Family Practice Center, where faculty and community family physicians mentor and teach our residents in the office setting. Clint Hartz, MD

"The University-Based Track at
OSU gives you the feel of a small, unopposed community hospital without sacrificing access to the resources and opportunities
associated with a large
academic Medical Center."

- Clint Hartz, MD. PGY1

Amy Gust, MD

"The integrated nature of the
Rural Track mimics rural practice;
and the OB experience is terrific."

- Amy Gust, MD. PGY3

Our Rural Track is housed at the Mad River Family Practice in Bellefontaine, located about an hour’s drive from Columbus in Logan County. Rural Family Medicine residents complete their three years of residency at this practice site. They share rotations with the University-Based Track at the OSU Medical Center and participate in many educational activities with residents from all tracks. Residents experience the best of both worlds – cutting edge family medicine and the reality of rural practice. Learn more about the Rural Residency Track.

Our Urban Family Medicine Track, housed at the OSU Family Medicine at University Hospitals East, is located in an "empowerment zone." Family medicine residents in the urban track experience a curriculum designed to prepare them for life as an urban family physician and see outpatients at University Hospitals East. patient population that is
typically under-served."

- Andre de Leon, MD. PGY 1

Sarah Bonza, MD

"OSU's Academic Track allowed
me to work toward my MPH
while in residency. It's been
a great opportunity."

- Sarah Bonza, MD

Our Academic Track prepares family practice residents for a career in Academic Family Medicine with a focus on teaching, leadership, research and scholarship. This track is designed to lead to a post graduate MPH or MBA degree. Learn more about the Academic Track.
