These words describe the dynamic environment that is the Department of Family Medicine at the Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University. The Department continues to gain increasing recognition for its outstanding clinical, educational, and research initiatives.

Faculty, fellows, residents, and staff are constantly forging new directions in medicine, making the Ohio State University Department of Family Medicine an exciting place to practice, teach, and conduct research. Consider that:

  • Our extensive family medicine care facilities, from our locations on the medical campus, to our in urban sites and rural communities, offer a comprehensive and convenient system of care for patients from throughout the central Ohio region. Department clinicians, many of whom are ranked "Best Doctors," are recognized for practicing in a health system that U.S. News & World Report  ranks as "among America’s Best" for its clinical care and cutting-edge technology. • Our medical education continues to advance clinical knowledge and professional development. Residents in our Family Medicine Residency are exposed to cutting edge techniques on specialty rotations while enjoying the dedicated teaching of Family Medicine physicians on an "unopposed" inpatient service at a comunity hospital.  Medical students will experience our 2006 M.D. Curriculum as a challenging course of study and early exposure to the practice of family medicine. They’ll also explore our web-based learning modules, including the Interactive Guide to Physical Examination, a digitally-advanced "hands-on" tool in helping to develop students’ patient care skills. • Our department faculty members continue to advance our knowledge of best practices in primary care through nationally-funded efforts, such as the Ohio State Primary Care Research Institute, a Department of Family Medicine collaboration with Ohio State general internal medicine and ambulatory pediatric physicians to bolster medical research in primary care. Together, our successful efforts have resulted in major increases in published research and significant gains in grant support for primary care studies.
