Professional Interests
My professional mission is to explore low-cost, high-yield integrative medical approaches that can enhance individual and community health, well-being, and functionality. I enact this mission through interdisciplinary teaching, research and service. Through my development and research of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction-low dose (MBSR-ld), I am able to explore the efficacy of this technique, while involving students (the researchers of tomorrow) in these studies. Teaching the basic tenets of Integrative medicine to medical students and residents is a contribution I am honored to make. Additionally, my curricular development of the undergraduate minor, “Integrative Approaches to Health and Wellness” allows me to interact with students interested in evidenced-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) from a variety of disciplines across campus. My clinical service has thus far focused on MBSR-ld with cancer survivors through JamesCare for Life. This academic focus of interdisciplinary teaching, research, and service, has allowed me rich inter-professional collaborations, which have in turn enhanced my personal values and mission.
